Youville House
Our Community
Programs
Youville residents enjoy an eclectic offering of daily programs that engage mind, body and spirit. We take special pride in the breadth and depth of our programs, with visiting professors discussing topics such as art history, opera, current events, literature, politics . . . to name just a few. In addition, many of our accomplished residents are eager to lead discussion groups related to their own areas of expertise. A typical “day in the life” of a Youville resident may start with a morning exercise class, followed by a resident meeting or art program, an afternoon concert by an acclaimed local ensemble, and an evening movie after dinner. Our chaplain frequently coordinates interfaith presentations and lectures, and is available to support residents of all faiths, through good times and bad. The Programs Department strives to book programs and performers that reflect the diversity of interests of our residents. Most of all, we aim to foster an atmosphere of community where residents can form meaningful relationships while pursuing their interests. Afternoon socials, Happy Hours, and many celebrations throughout the year lend our community its unique, indescribable quality that so many visitors notice the moment they walk through our front doors.

Dining
The Youville dining staff offers well-balanced, seasonally inspired menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day in the main dining room. We make every effort to accommodate residents who are managing special diets. Menus indicate low-salt, low-fat and sugar-free items. A dietitian is available for consultation with residents. Youville also offers a continental, self-serve breakfast and snacks daily in our “All Day Café.”
Youville chefs are well-known for preparing delicious offerings, including a wide variety of homemade soups and stews, fresh seafood, specialty sandwiches, flavorful salads and home-style meals. Friends and visitors are welcome to enjoy meals with residents.
Wellness
The Wellness nursing team assists residents with their healthcare management and helps assess the need for medical intervention or emergency care. The goal of the Wellness team is to provide each resident with specific, individualized services needed to remain safe and healthy. Residents’ dignity, privacy and, above all, autonomy are Youville’s highest priority.
Specially trained resident care assistants work under the supervision of the Youville nurses and are available 24 hours a day to provide scheduled personal care and medication reminders. Residents also have emergency pendants and access to emergency pull cords in their apartments to signal the need for urgent assistance. Up to one hour of personal care services are provided each day as part of the basic package of services.
As part of the Youville application process, the Wellness Nurse conducts an assessment to determine if Youville can meet the prospective resident’s wellness needs. This assessment, along with information provided by the individual’s physician, helps the nurse develop a service plan to address specific needs for assistance with personal care, medication management or escorts to meals and activities.
Regulations for assisted living in Massachusetts prohibit Youville nurses from providing ‘skilled’ care. However, any resident’s need for skilled services can be met by a visiting nurse or by contracting for these services privately. Skilled services might include injections, wound care and cardiac monitoring.
Youville Assisted Living residences are certified by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and operate within the regulations set forth by this agency.
