Staff Spotlight: Glory Parmar

Summary

The systems here are different than in India, and I love learning new things. But I would say that I like working in every department because there’s always something new to learn.” -Glory Parmar

In just a few years, Glory Parmar has spread her talents across numerous departments at Youville Place. She was hired as an Administrative Assistant in 2022, but by now, “Jack of All Trades” might be a more appropriate title. Glory’s key responsibilities include working in Human Resources, Accounting, and Community Life, all while continuing to perform a wide variety of administrative tasks for Youville directors. When asked what her favorite department is, Glory says, “It’s hard to choose because I like them all. This year I started working in Human Resources and I like it very much. I had already worked in Human Resources in India for three or four years, and it has been exciting to learn about how it is done in the United States. The systems here are different than in India, and I love learning new things. But I would say that I like working in every department because there’s always something new to learn.” According to Susan Cwieka, CEO of Youville Place, “Glory is willing to step up and help anybody, and she always does it with a smile. She never says, ‘I can’t do it’ or ‘I don’t have time.’ She’s an independent thinker with an impressive knowledgebase. If she doesn’t know the answer to an immediate problem, she is always able to find one.”

Before moving to the United States, Glory grew up and was educated in Gujarat, India. She graduated from college with a degree in electrical engineering, and then worked as intern for a company that made panels. Her first paying jobs were in human resources and school administration. “When I moved to the United States, it made sense to look for administrative assistant positions, because I had that experience,” says Glory. Auspiciously, the first job posting that caught her attention was an Administrative Assistant position at Youville Place. “It was the first job I applied to, my first interview, and Youville hired me!” On a typical morning, Glory mentally plans out her busy day as she drives to work. Pressing projects might include the completion of an audit for the Executive Office of Aging and Independence; helping newly hired employees complete paperwork; updating a policy; or helping a new resident coordinate move-in logistics. Outside of work, Glory enjoys reading novels (Khaled Hosseini is a favorite author) and exploring downtown Boston with her husband. The couple are avid travelers and have a goal to visit all 50 U.S. states. “So far we have visited 17,” says Glory. “The farthest was Hawaii, which was also my favorite.” “My favorite part of Boston right now is the Seaport District,” says Glory. “We spend most of our weekends exploring, without any plan.” When not traveling, exploring Boston, or reading, Glory is busy continuing her studies at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, where she is enrolled in a Master’s program in Information Technology. She is also an active member of her church. If working full-time while earning a Master’s degree is not enough to keep a young professional busy, they might consider adding parenthood to the mix – which is exactly what Glory is doing! In March, she and her husband will be thrilled to welcome their first child into the world. Until then, they will try to squeeze in as many weekend trips to Boston as they can.
