tulipsRED

Youville is proud to celebrate Parkinson’s Awareness Month by offering free, PD-related programs to the community. In addition to our regularly occurring Parkinson’s Support Group, we will offer a lecture/information session about sleep disorders and related research study opportunities, as well as two innovative movement programs. Please read on to learn more about our offerings and consider joining us for a program!

Virtual Parkinson’s Classroom: Sleep Disorders & PD
Thursday, April 7 at 3:00 PM
Our featured speaker, Dr. Aleksandar Videnovic, Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, will discuss sleep problems that commonly occur as a result of Parkinson’s disease. This talk will provide an overview of how PD can affect the circadian rhythm and the specific sleep disorders that occur.
Dr. Videnovic will also provide information about medical research study opportunities for individuals who are looking to improve their sleep. Following the presentation there will be a Q & A session. This is a virtual event. Click here to RSVP and gain access.

Virtual Parkinson’s Support Group
Thursday, April 14 at 3:00 PM
For those living with the challenges of Parkinson’s disease, regular group support can have an enormous impact on morale and emotional wellness. Participants benefit from the opportunity to establish a network, share information and process their experiences with peers who understand what it’s like to have Parkinson’s disease. This group meets every second Thursday of the month. This is a virtual event. Click here to RSVP and gain access.

Dance with Parkinson’s

Dance with Parkinson’s engages mind and body through the joyful medium of dance. This class is taught live and in person, by a trained instructor from Urbanity Dance. Space is limited – attendees must register in advance via email or by calling 617.491.1234. Proof of vaccination and masks are required.

Step Up to PD: Virtual, Non-Contact Boxing Classes for PD
Every Wednesday & Friday at 12:00 PM
Step Up to PD classes are taught by a professional boxing coach who is certified through Rock Steady Boxing (RSB). The rigorous workouts provided during boxing training have been shown to improve common Parkinson’s symptoms that affect range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, activities of daily living, emotional wellness and morale. This class is free and supported by a community grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation. Offered every week. To register or learn more, please email or call 617.491.1234.
